Local Marketing In The 21st Century

Of course you’ve heard “Think Globally, Act Locally.” And up until the early 2000s, local marketing was a tactical, physical discipline for brands and retailers alike. But today’s online statistics regarding local marketing are both remarkable and encouraging. For instance:

  • 73% of all online activity is related to local content
  • 82% of online searchers follow up with a visit or call to the local merchant
  • 61% of local searches result in a purchase

That last statistic gave us pause. Local marketing–defined as Social Media Marketing, Local Directory Listing, Mobile Marketing, SMS, and QR Codes–were once the purview of local mom-and-pop retailers. However, all businesses, regardless of size, exchange products and services at the local level. So clearly having a local marketing strategy for Internet and mobile has become a crucial part of customer acquisition and sales strategies.
